San Da (San Shou). What is it?
Hey all!
Here's just a quick explanation on what San Da, or San Shou, is all about.
In English, we may just call it a quick "Kickboxing", but no, it's not the Aerobics kinda KICKBOXING.
SAN DA (SAN SHOU) 散打/散手
- Modern Chinese combat
- Fighting style includes striking (punching, kicking... only NO BACKFISTS), as well as grappling (slamming, wrestling, locking, etc)
- Sometimes mistaken as Muay Thai, but here's the difference between San Da and Muay Thai!:
- For safety reasons, elbow and knee strikes are not allowed in San Da.
- Ours include slamming, wrestling and such.
- Muay Thai allows backfists, ours doesn't.
- During competitions, protective gear is worn.
- If you're planning to learn grappling, you'd better master it! Because you're only allowed to clinch for a few seconds. If the time's up, and neither fighter has managed to throw his opponent, the referee will disengage the clinch.
- It's possible to score points by either striking, throwing, or pushing your opponent outta the ring.
That's about it. For more information, drop by our training, 6p.m. at Sports Complex grandstand. Our clubhouse is room 02-13. (:
Then again, you can always email us at np.kickbox@gmail.com too!
SEE YOU!
